Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I have to have software at home?

No, we use the Adobe software and it is provided on school computers in the Production Studio lab.

  • Do I have to have my own equipment?

No, the studio has several DSLR cameras for students to sign out, as well as a robust inventory of microphones, tripods, lights and more.

  • Do I have to know specific software before I take the class?

It is not required, although it would be very helpful.  We use Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing, as well as Photoshop and Lightroom for photography.  You can learn Premiere Pro and Photoshop by taking Adobe courses at your traditional high school prior to entering the program at CATS.

  • What kinds of projects do you do?

We have very different classes.  In the digital filmmaking class you can expect to work in small groups to produce several short films.  In the Studio Production class, all students work together to produce a weekly talk show.  In Broadcast Journalism, students report on events happening throughout Iredell County, as well as work as a team to produce a weekly news broadcast.
