Courses Offered

Basic Transportation Systems is the first in the series of Transportation Technology course offerings. This course introduces the students to the basic information and skills for employment in auto repair, auto collision repair, metal working, construction equipment service, motorcycle and marine service as well as other transportation related fields. Work place safety, proper tool and equipment operation, data acquisition, testing procedures and environmental issues are stressed in this class. At the conclusion of this course students should be proficient in basic vehicle maintenance.

Intro to Auto Service is taken together with Basic Transportation Systems.  It introduces basic automotive skills in Service & Safety, Engine Repair, Automatic Transmissions & Transaxles, Manual Drivetrain and Axles and job opportunities in the auto repair industry. As part of the NATEF accreditation, topics are aligned to the Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) requirements. English language arts are reinforced. Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course include job shadowing. Apprenticeship and cooperative education are not available for this course. SkillsUSA competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.

General Transportation Systems provides the student with class and lab work in many general areas of skill development for entry level employment in most transportation repair fields. Students are also exposed to different employment areas during this class and lab. At the conclusion of this course the student should have knowledge of the different types of employment available in the transportation sector. The student should also be proficient in most general repair operations employers would generally require for employment.

Taken together with General Transportation Systems, the Automotive Service 1 course introduces basic automotive skills in Suspension & Steering, Heating & Air Conditioning and Engine Performance. As part of the NATEF accreditation, topics are aligned to the Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) requirements. English language arts are reinforced. Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course include apprenticeship, cooperative education, entrepreneurship, internship, and job shadowing. SkillsUSA competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.

Advanced Transportation Systems will teach advanced procedures and skills related to selected transportation service areas. Students may select one or more advanced areas of study during this class. Advanced analysis and problem solving are stressed in these classes. Students will learn to work independently, in teams and in leadership positions in “real world” situations during lab. Students will have the opportunity to train for a variety of scholarship skills competitions.

Specialized Transportation Systems will teach advanced knowledge and employment skills in a selected transportation employment area. Students may select Automotive Repair, Collision Repair, Motorcycle/Marine Repair, Diesel/Heavy Equipment Repair or another specialized area (as available). Scholarship competition teams will train and compete during this time. Students may have the opportunity to participate in internships (paid or unpaid) as available. College articulation credits are available for some courses. Articulated college credit is awarded based on selected college requirements.
